The Head of Medical Information at Bausch Health will shape the strategic direction of the Medical Information (MI) team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, compliant medical information services. This leader will be responsible for overseeing a team that develops and provides accurate medical information content for both approved and investigational products, addressing the needs of both external audiences—such as healthcare professionals and consumers—and internal stakeholders within the medical affairs organization.

 

In addition to content development, the Head of Medical Information will drive business process optimization, which may include supervising QA activities, managing call center operations, and enhancing other key aspects of departmental performance.

 

This role is central to establishing and executing strategies that enable the MI department to operate at its highest potential. The Head of Medical Information will evaluate current processes, pinpoint areas for improvement, and implement effective solutions to maximize operational efficiency.

 

Furthermore, the Head of Medical Information provides medical and strategic leadership for the department, spearheading initiatives to advance departmental capabilities, managing and mentoring staff, and supporting the professional growth of individual MI team members through ongoing coaching and development opportunities.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Vision and Leadership: Define and drive the vision of the MI team to achieve the highest level of service and customer satisfaction. Establish the strategy for the MI team and create department goals and objectives that align with the medical strategy. Ensuring strategic alignment and cross functional communications with key internal stakeholders and partners across Bausch Health (Medical Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Field Medical, CMC partners, Customer Services, Supply Chain, Regulatory etc.)
  • Collaboration and Compliance: Collaborate with MI staff, MA teams, IT, Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance partners to ensure compliance and audit readiness. Review and approve draft MI processes and/or vendor processes and/or systems. Interacting with medical directors for updates and review of medical information trends/data gaps when topics arise for a therapeutic area. Interacting with MI in other regions (such as, Canada, EMEA) for MI and ensuring the proper triage of queries
  • Project Management: Manage departmental project performance and implement initiatives to drive MI organizational excellence. Interacting with MI in other regions (such as, Canada, EMEA) for MI and ensuring the proper triage of queries. Developing departmental strategic initiatives to address major activities within assigned therapeutic area (product launches, labeling updates, etc). Critically reviewing, editing, and/or writing scientific documents such as AMCP dossiers, draft manuscripts, and slide sets, when needed
  • Content Development and Delivery: Oversee the development and delivery of medical information content for both marketed and investigational products with up-to-date standard response documents (SRDs) relevant to therapeutic area (TA) , across multiple TAs (Salix, OrthoDerm, Neurology, Diversified, Solta).  Provide scientifically balanced responses to external parties (healthcare providers and patients) or internal parties (affiliates and distributors) requesting medical/product information. Ensure the medical/scientific accuracy of medical information content deliverables.
  • Vendor Management: Drive medical Information vendor management for high-quality service delivery and operational efficiency. Oversee the vendor call center activities for medical Information.
  • Trend Analysis: Identify and analyze medical information trends for therapeutic areas to contribute insights on products.
  • Customer Feedback: Solicit regulator customer and stakeholder feedback on MI systems and/or processes.
  • Technology Solutions: Drive and implement technology solutions in close partnership with IT to improve efficiencies.
  • Team Management: Lead and build a high-performing team, managing internal staff and/or vendors. Develop, coach, support, and manage MI personnel.
  • Budget Management: Forecast MI spend and manage budgets to achieve departmental goals and objectives

 

Qualifications

  • Education: Advanced degree in a health-related science (MD, PharmD, PhD, or JD) or equivalent clinical experience.
  • Experience: Requires 12+ years of experience working in medical Information in the biotech/pharma industry, with a minimum of 5 years in a management/supervisory role. Demonstrated success in department strategic planning and building high-performing teams.
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to negotiate with senior leaders. In-depth knowledge of ICMJE, good publication practices, and journal review/selection criteria. Analytical skills to synthesize data sets and study summaries into meaningful communication materials.

 

As required by law, Bausch Health provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in the US. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For this role, the range of starting pay for this role is 187-257k annually.
