ROLE TITLE:      ELECTRICIAN

DEPARTMENT:   ENGINEERING

REPORTS TO:     SUPERVISOR, ELECTRICAL

HOURS:              ROTATIONAL SHIFT, 7:00 – 15:30, 15:00 -23:30 AND 23:30-7:00

 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Electrical, at the Steinbach location, will plan, install, test, inspect, troubleshoot and service electrical equipment that is vital to the operation of the businesses.  Maintains and updates components directly or indirectly exposed to electric power such as motors, generators, pumps, lighting systems and associated electrical and electronic controls.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial, electrical, and electronic control systems having inter-related circuits such as PLCs, transformers, controllers, electronic circuits, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, or conduit systems related to production and packaging equipment.
  • Use test instruments to diagnose problems, work from blueprints, drawings, layout, or other specifications to locate and diagnose trouble in the electrical system and equipment.
  • Calibrate production and facility instruments.
  • Design, source, install and modify equipment controls as required.  Rebuild, re-design and modify existing equipment to meet production requirements, including PLC’s, timers, and VFD’s
  • Perform equipment qualifications as required and assist with the technical writing of qualification / validation documents regarding electrical equipment and services.
  • Maintain, compile all information and documentation relevant to maintenance and calibration programs.
  • Collaborate with Parts Coordinator to maintain electrical supplies inventory as well as specify, source, and select electrical equipment, VFD’s, motors and machine controls.
  • Consult with external vendors and OEM to quickly resolve equipment issues and promote continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Provincial and local Department of Labour Standards, safety regulations, good manufacturing practices (cGMP) and regulatory requirements.

Education and Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ experience with maintaining and troubleshooting machine controls within a manufacturing environment.
  • Electrical or Instrumentation Technologist with Industrial Electrician (Red Seal) certification
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office program.
  • Proficient with SAP software.
  • Good project management skills with ability to manage multiple tasks.
