ROLE TITLE: ENGINEER, AUTOMATION
DEPARTMENT: ENGINEERING
REPORTS TO: SENIOR MANAGER, ENGINEERING
HOURS: 8:00 – 16:30-STEINBACH, MANITOBA
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Engineering, and working within a diverse engineering team, you will serves as a site Subject Matter Expert (SME) for major facility projects and systems, providing technical guidance and project execution for the Engineering team. This role is responsible for managing complex projects, from defining user requirements and evaluating vendors, to overseeing implementation, commissioning, and performance assessments.

Responsibilities:
- Lead engineering and site-wide projects related to facility and utility systems, applying sound project management methodologies and documentation to ensure successful project delivery (scope, user requirements, risk management, scheduling, budgeting, resourcing).
- Ensure all new facility and utility systems are designed with robust, engineered safety controls. Verify and document the effectiveness of all safety systems during installation and commissioning to uphold site safety standards.
- Serve as SME for OSD facility systems such as HVAC, purified water, environmental controls, compressed air, and building automation; provide guidance and technical support to the engineering team.
- Ensure compliance with cGMP, regulatory standards (e.g. Health Canada, FDA, EMA), and company policies by supporting inspections, audits, investigations, CAPA development, and Change Requests.
- Conduct engineering studies to develop and implement improved methods of operation or processing for new and existing systems, maximizing efficiency in production through technology, equipment, and energy optimization.
- Prepare and maintain accurate engineering documentation such as requirements documents, PM records, calibration plans, engineering studies, and detailed drawings, ensuring data integrity and regulatory readiness.
- Champion continuous improvement by identifying and executing CI projects, performing cost-benefit and payback analyses utilizing Lean methodologies as appropriate.
- Promote and uphold site-wide occupational health, safety, and wellness standards by participating in and leading safety programs and initiatives.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, proactive problem-solving, and knowledge-sharing within the engineering function and across departments.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in science - eligible for registration with APEGM- preferably with a focus on mechanical or industrial engineering.
- Minimum 3 years experience of related manufacturing experience as an Engineer
- Demonstrated leadership and project management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Able to management multiple concurrent projects and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge in Microsoft Office is required; CMMS (Computerized maintenance Management Software) is an asset.
- Experience running technical projects within a manufacturing environment
- Pharmaceutical or food manufacturing experience is an asset
