1. Purpose of the Position
Ensures the management of the department regarding activity planning, resources, budget, work organization, and team management to deliver the production plan. Ensures staff development and training, as well as the implementation of continuous improvement and performance initiatives.
2. Main Functions
MONITORING OF PACKAGING OPERATIONS
• Validates short- and medium-term production planning established with the Logistics Department.
• Ensures that the team manages material and human resource needs.
• Ensures that production declarations are properly executed in the ERP system (pay point).
• Evaluates KPIs (performance indicators) and implements corrective actions when required to meet targets.
• Reviews and documents, when necessary, batch records and production documents before transferring them to Quality Assurance.
• Ensures the handling of non-conformities until final resolution.
• Ensures the updating of packaging documents (instructions, procedures, packaging sheets).
• Ensures the implementation of the preventive maintenance plan defined with Technical Services.
Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Continuous Improvement, and Health & Safety (HSE)
• Ensures compliance with and application of GMP within the department.
• Participates in self-inspections and audits and ensures corrective actions are implemented by the defined deadlines.
• Participates in defining, implementing, and monitoring the department’s continuous improvement program.
• Writes and/or coordinates the writing and training of procedures and instructions, and ensures their application.
• Approves change controls and/or provides expert input.
• Monitors deviations and actions related to change requests.
• Provides support for validation activities (equipment, processes).
• Enforces the HSE policy within the department by proposing HSE improvements through PASS and ensures follow-up on corrective actions from incident/accident analyses.
3. Management Responsibilities
• Manages the packaging team, ensuring a daily work environment conducive to productivity and fostering innovation.
• Participates in setting departmental objectives and in the employee evaluation process.
• Ensures the development of team members, particularly through defining training plans.
• Identifies staffing needs and participates in recruitment.
• Ensures the effectiveness of the onboarding and training processes within the department.
• Identifies improvement opportunities related to quality, capacity, cost, timelines, safety, work methods, tools, systems, productivity, efficiency, and performance, and ensures the follow-up of improvement measures.
4. Resources (budget, investments)
• Prepares and manages the department's budget (purchasing, resources, standard times, production).
• Proposes necessary investments for the department (CAPEX).
• Ensures the follow-up of project implementation and ensures deliverables are met according to the schedule.
• Defines action plans to optimize production in terms of Quality/Cost/Delivery.
5. Key Professional Relationships (internal/external)
• Participates in multidisciplinary working groups.
• Acts as the primary point of contact for support departments for daily operational issues (QA, Technical Services, HR, HSE…).
• Ensures deadlines are met and informs relevant departments in case of deviations.
• Initiates improvement projects within the department and participates in cross-functional projects.
Internal partners: Quality, Logistics, Planning, Finance, Engineering, Process Development, Warehouse, Manufacturing, Cleaning Validation.
6. Required Knowledge and Skills
a) Education
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related sciences, or a DEC with equivalent experience.
b) Languages
French and English (read, written, spoken).
c) Experience and Specific Knowledge
Minimum 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
Minimum 5 years of personnel management experience.
Experience required in production.
d) Specific Technical Skills
Knowledge of IT tools related to production (HMI – Electronic batch records, Serialization), SAP.
Good Manufacturing Practices (FDA, Health Canada, EMA…).
Health & Safety standards.
Green Belt certification.
