The Senior Manager, Field Medical Capability Development & Training is a senior Medical Affairs leader at Bausch Health, responsible for building a sustained enterprise-wide field medical excellence across all therapeutic areas. This role owns the strategy, design, and execution of onboarding, continuous capability development, and performance measurement for Field Medical Affairs. The Senior Manager functions as the enterprise architect for field medical capabilities, with full accountability for learning curricula, functional budget management, and autonomous decision-making regarding future-state capabilities required to support Bausch’s evolving portfolio.
This role is hybrid based out of Bridgewater, NJ (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in office)
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise & Across-Therapeutic-Area Capability Strategy
- Define and own an across-therapeutic-area Field Medical capability framework aligned to Bausch Medical Affairs strategy
- Establish enterprise standards for scientific engagement, insight generation, omnichannel execution, and compliant field operations
- Serve as a strategic advisor to Field Medical Leadership, Medical Directors, and Medical Affairs executives
Learning Curriculum Ownership
- Design, develop, and maintain a comprehensive Field Medical learning and training curriculum across all therapeutic areas
- Ensure curricula cover disease state knowledge, product science, medical strategy, communication excellence, systems, and compliance
- Apply adult learning principles, simulations, workshops, digital platforms, and emerging technologies to drive sustained capability development
Coaching, Performance Measurement & Medical Effectiveness
- Implement enterprise competency frameworks, capability assessments, and coaching models to evaluate scientific and engagement proficiency
- Define and monitor qualitative and quantitative KPIs demonstrating Field Medical impact and value
- Deliver executive-level dashboards and performance reporting to Medical Affairs leadership
Functional Budget & Resource Management
- Own the Field Medical capabilities and training budget, including forecasting, prioritization, and ROI-driven investment decisions
- Exercise autonomous decision-making authority regarding future capability development, tools, and training investments
- Oversee external vendors, agencies, and technology partners supporting capability initiatives
Field Medical Operations, Systems & Launch Readiness
- Provide strategic oversight of Field Medical tools and systems (e.g., CRM/Veeva, digital engagement platforms, LMS)
- Standardize best practices for territory planning, KOL engagement, insight capture, and launch execution
- Lead Field Medical launch preparedness to ensure scientific readiness and executional excellence across therapeutic areas
Minimum Requirements:
- Advanced scientific degree required (PharmD, MD, PhD, NP, or PA preferred)
- Minimum of 6 years of Medical Affairs experience with significant field-facing background (e.g., MSL)
- 4+ years in a capability/training role for cross-functional field force in Pharma/Biotech industry
- Demonstrated experience coaching or developing field medical teams, such as onboarding, capability building, or scientific training
- Strong understanding of field medical operations, including insights gathering, KOL engagement, and compliant scientific exchange
- Strong scientific and business acumen with ability to translate complex science into clear, credible, field-ready content
- Experience implementing adult learning principles and curricula to effectively educate adults with different backgrounds and learning styles
- Experience using data analytics to measure qualitative and quantitative impact of medical activities
- Proven ability to influence senior leadership and drive cross-therapeutic-area alignment
- Proven ability to design and deliver training programs for field medical teams (scientific, communication, soft skills, systems)
- Experience with competency frameworks, capability assessments, and continuous development plans
- Strong facilitation skills and comfort leading workshops, simulations, and coaching sessions
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; proven success in cross-functional collaboration
- Strong project and stakeholder management skills; ability to prioritize and deliver multiple projects on time
- Critical thinking, proactive problem-solving, and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and working knowledge of Veeva or similar customer relationships management systems
The range of starting base pay for this role is 153K-211K. Actual starting pay will be based on a wide range of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, qualifications, education and location. In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for participation in either (i) our annual bonus program or (ii) a sales incentive plan.
