ROLE TITLE:      BUILDING OPERATOR (Power engineer)

DEPARTMENT:  ENGINEERING

REPORTS TO:    SUPERVISOR, FACILITIES

HOURS:                 12 hr. shifts Rotation (07:00 - 19:00) (19:00-07:00)

 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Facilities, you will be responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of all building equipment and systems including but not restricted to steam boilers, hot water boilers, chillers, cooling towers, potable/purified water systems, compressed air, vacuum, dust collection, environmental control chambers and air handling systems.

 Responsibilities:

  • Operates, services, and repairs building/plant systems (e.g. boilers, fans, cooling towers, chillers, HVAC, building management systems, emergency power, fire systems,) within code requirements.
  • Maintains and services water systems (e.g. tests, analyzes and logs pumps, purified water membranes, heat reclamation systems, piping).
  • Maintain building environmental conditions at required levels within designated controlled areas using BMS (building monitoring system).
  • Performs daily boiler chemical tests, calculates impurities, add chemicals, as necessary.
  • Ensures piping of equipment is in good working order and repaired if necessary.
  • Assist with plant equipment systems repairs, maintenance, and calibrations, as necessary.
  • Document all required logs and other documentation electronically.
  • Provide emergency response services to fire protection/alarm system and boiler operation.
  • Participates in the area of occupational health, safety, and wellness.

Education and Experience:

  • Valid 4th class power engineer certificate from the province of Manitoba.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience as a Power Engineer. 
  • Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment such as pharmaceuticals or food industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic and electronic control systems and heating, ventilation, air conditioning, (HVAC) operation and maintenance.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel. Exposure to building control systems and Computer Maintenance Management System preferred (Honeywell and EAM is an asset).
