The Principal Scientist designs and performs complex analytical experiments and procedures to support drug development. Designs and preforms characterization studies for drug development, example characterization using XRD, DSC, Raman spectroscopy, etc; identification and isolation of unknown impurities using LCMS, NMR, Preparatory-HPLC, etc. Designs and executes high-quality method development and validation studies for drug product development. Provides expert dissolution test method development to meet the drug product profile for orals in accordance to regulatory guidance. Provides technical leadership and management for a team of scientists and/or chemists in support of drug development activities under GLP and cGMP regulations.  Interprets and applies pharmaceutical guidelines, such as, ICH, CDER, USP, etc. to develop and validate analytical test methods in support of oral and other pharmaceutical drug product development. Experienced in discriminatory dissolution method development in accordance to FDA and ICH Guidelines. Provides troubleshooting advice based on job holder’s expert laboratory skills.  Provides leadership for Analytical Sciences’ projects and provides input in the proposal and budget process.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that day-to-day laboratory work is scientifically sound and in accordance with protocols, standard operating procedures, and regulations.
  • Identifies analytical test method goals to support the different product development stages and develops accurate and robust analytical test methods.
  • Designs and develops discriminatory dissolution test methods to support oral drug product development.
  • Designs and executes characterization studies using XRD, DSC, Raman Spectroscopy, and so on.
  • Performs complex analytical testing with accuracy and efficiency
  • Provides a high level of experimental design and data interpretation
  • Identifies problems and provides troubleshooting for analytical processes and analytical problems
  • Proactively reviews operations and contributes to development of standard operating procedures and training programs
  • Independently prepares Analytical Sciences’ validation protocols and reports
  • Effectively communicates with managers and staff inside and outside the department on project status and problems encountered
  • Ensures accurate calculations and documents work in compliance with Bausch Health procedures
  • Performs final review of notebooks and data for staff members

 

Qualifications:

  • PhD with  8+ years experience in chemistry or related scientific field with extensive experience in analytical laboratory environment to support development of solid, semi-solid or dosage forms with complex matrices for oral pharmaceutical application.
  • Expert in analytical development to support pharmaceutical products development with emphasis in analytical chemistry techniques and applications
  • Ability to exercise independent intellectual judgment based on the individual’s specialized skills in the field of science

  • Able to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing

 

As required by law, Bausch Health provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in the US. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For this role, the range of starting pay for this role is $130-170k.
