Reporting to the Senior Manager, Procurement, the Senior NPI Buyer is responsible for ensuring that Research and Development (R&D) requirements for high quality indirect goods and services are provided  to Solta at the expected time, in the expected quantities, at the expected quality and at the expected costs in support of New Product Development (NPI) activities and on-going R&D needs. Functional responsibilities include supplier management and procurement, supply chain, negotiations, sourcing & costing and assessing the performance of suppliers 

 

Principle Responsibilities & Duties: 
Note: The following are meant to be representative but not necessarily all inclusive of the duties and responsibilities for this position title. 

 

New Product Development

  • Drive new product development to ensure the best supply solution is leveraged for the life of the program in alignment with program sourcing plan.
  • Interface with Production Buyers and Planners to confirm supply strategies identified as part of new product development and drive for execution according to plans.
  • Participate and provide inputs into early supplier involvement activities depending on the complexity of the commodities to source, for assigned projects.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with key suppliers, for new program sourcing requirements.
  • Attend project meetings to have awareness of timeline and need for Procurement support.  
  • Drive communications with key suppliers to keep project on track.  Responsible for issue resolution with suppliers.
  • Participate in NPI specific meetings and Material Readiness Review meetings as required.


Purchasing

  • Obtains quotes and negotiates with suppliers where appropriate to obtain competitive pricing for high quality indirect goods and services in support of R&D needs.  
  • Enters purchase orders in the Procurement system, places orders with suppliers, and works with suppliers to ensure on-time receipts or completion of agreed upon milestones and schedules. 
  • Initiates capital requisitions to support prototype/production intent tooling and negotiates payment terms.  Tracks tooling payments and status of milestone payments.
  • Assists with R&D AP reconciliation and invoicing activities.

 

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Communicate and coordinate with R&D Program Managers and Engineers to drive actions toward achieving program deliverables.
  • Identify and support/lead supplier assessments related to NPI programs.
  • Ensure successful transition from R&D to Production buying for new parts.
  • Promote cost reduction initiatives as an integral team member with responsibility to identify and drive execution of the best supply solution.

 

Supply Chain Management 

  • Evaluates supplier reliability, works with suppliers on continuous improvement activities and drives for overall best value to Solta.
  • Actively engages on the identification and development of new supplier sources where suppliers are inadequate or when new suppliers / technologies are required in support of assigned NPI projects
  • Coordinates with Quality and Finance to ensure that suppliers are reviewed, approved, and monitored on an ongoing basis consistent with FDA and ISO requirements and financial objectives. 
  • Assists in the development of a supplier rating system and provides input regarding Supplier performance. 
  • Creates and maintains Service agreements with key suppliers as applicable and in support of R&D requirements by collaborating with Indirect Procurement.
  • Initiates and leads cost improvement projects through negotiations and/or design improvements from inception to completion for assigned projects.
     

Receiving 

  • Monitors receiving activity for R&D indirect goods and works with suppliers to ensure the orderly receipt of goods and services delivered to the company per R&D Purchase Orders. 
  • Works with Quality Assurance to ensure the timely flow of R&D goods through QC inspection processes as required in support of R&D activities.
  • Budgetary/Financial
  • Provides input in the development of a budget for the  R&D functional area. 
  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting of various financial metrics related to R&D spend. Complete financial analysis and what if scenarios to determine viability of cost reduction projects.

 

NPI Costing Coordination

  • Develops an initial prototype costed BOM and coordinates required Planning parameters are entered into ERP system in preparation for transition from prototype to production.
  • Product costing – Central collection point for quotes.  Establishes a living costed BOM and compares material cost to product cost goals. 
  • Responsible for ongoing maintenance of costed BOMs.

 

Experience, Education, Training, Traits: 

  • Requires a minimum of an undergraduate degree preferably in a technical field, Supply Chain Management or Business Administration. 
  • Senior Buyer experience - particularly in the manufacture of instrumentation and/or medical devices (5 years or more is required) including: 
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the utilization of ERP systems and planning tools.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Bill of Material structures and component specifications. 
  • Supply-chain management and supplier relationship management 
  • Purchasing skills to include obtaining quotes, negotiations, and supply agreements. 
  • Purchase order entry skills, knowledge of receiving transactions and return to vendor transactions. 
  • Inventory management knowledge to include knowledge of various inventory transactions. 
  • Turnkey supplier management experience. 
  • New product introduction experience. 
  • Experience working within a rigorous quality system environment (ISO, FDA cGMP/QSR) is preferred. 
  • Strong collaboration, team building, and development skills. 
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail. 
  • Strong MS Office skills. 
  • Experience with ERP systems is preferred. 

 

As required by law, Bausch Health provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in the US. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For this role, the range of starting pay for this role is $80k - $110k.
